Adapter Plate Assembly
This assembly consists of a plate that mounts on the motor, a
second plate to which the gearbox mounts, and two spacers between these plates.
Below are pictures of the motor plate. The circular pocket is for the mounting
shoulder on the motor. The small holes are for press-in alignment dowels, and
the medium size holes are for bolts that hold the plate to the spacers.
This picture shows reliefs being cut into the bottom spacer (Yes, it *is* stupid
to use a boring bar as a flycutter hanging that far out of a boring head,
but it worked).
The two spacers were installed on the motor plate and the dowels pressed in,
permanently mating and aligning the parts. With the pins pressed in, the bolts
almost become optional.
The gearbox plate was then installed
with the oil seal bore concentric with the shaft adapter:
Standard bolts had to be turned down to fit the counterbores in the gearbox
cover:
The gearbox case was aligned to the input shaft:
Once the gearbox was bolted to the adapter assembly in proper alignment, holes
for dowel pins were drilled and reamed through the original dowel pin holes
into the gearbox plate:
Gearbox alignment dowels installed (Oil seal not yet installed)
Here are pictures of the completed assembly:
